When it comes to ‘fitnessing’ and moving our bodies the way we’d like them to move, there’s one attribute that we often look past:

It’s called mobility.

The ability to move our joints through full(ish) range of motion with a degree of control. Think of it as flexibility meets strength.

I’d go as far as saying that so many of those other components of fitness that we hold so dear — lifting heavy stuff, running fast, cycling far — balance precariously on top of the foundation that is mobility.

It’s the bedrock upon which all human performance is built.

A bold statement.

If it’s indeed true, the great news is that there are plenty of different ways in which one could start to assess and improve their mobility. But as with many things in life, starting something completely new and filtering through the sea of information (and misinformation) isn’t always easy.

So in the name of sustainable growth and well-oiled hips, let’s attempt to simplify things.

Now — if, for some strange reason, I could only pick a few mobility exercises and flexibility drills to perform on the regular, these would be the ones. All awesome for improving performance, looking after your joints, and enjoying pain-free movement in everyday life.
